A release from the Sheriff’s office indicated Derek Gibson, 44, of Plum Tree Lane was arrested for failing to appear in court on several charges stemming from a January arrest.

Deputies were dispatched to the Plum Tree Lane address at around noon Saturday in response to a verbal domestic call between Gibson and his ex-girlfriend.

Police say it was reported that Gibson had broken a window and poured gasoline into the Plum Tree Lane residence before fleeing on foot.

Boone County deputies were unable to locate Gibson but were called back to the residence later Saturday evening after a neighbor reported he had returned.

The ex-girlfriend was not at home and negotiations with Gibson were unsuccessful. The SWAT team made entry into the residence and located Gibson in an attic, where he was taken into custody.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office released the following statement regarding the incident:

On Saturday, June 8, 2019, at approximately 8:38 pm, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Negotiation Teams were deployed and responded to the 700 block of Plum Tree Lane for a barricaded subject. The standoff lasted approximately six (6) hours before the subject was located inside of the residence and ultimately arrested.

Derek Gibson, 44, of Plum Tree Lane was arrested for an active warrant for failing to appear in court on prior charges for Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, and Violation of Kentucky EPO/DVO stemming from a January arrest.

On Saturday, June 8, 2019, deputies were dispatched to the Plum Tree Lane address at approximately 12:12 pm for a verbal domestic between Gibson and his ex-girlfriend. Prior to the deputies’ arrival, it was reported to dispatch that Gibson had broken his ex-girlfriend’s back window and poured gasoline into the residence before fleeing on foot. It was also known by deputies that Gibson had an active felony warrant. Deputies searched the area for Gibson, but after four (4) hours and no further information on his whereabouts, the search was called off.

Knowing that deputies had extensively searched for Gibson earlier in the day, a neighbor on Plum Tree Lane reported that they had just witnessed Gibson walking into his ex-girlfriend’s residence. Gibson remained inside of the residence by himself. His ex-girlfriend was not home at the time. Deputies set up a perimeter around the residence and the SWAT Team and along with the Negotiation Team were deployed. After hours of failed negotiations with Gibson and minimal communication, the SWAT Team made entry and Gibson was located hunkered down in the attic of the residence. Gibson was taken into custody without further incident by the SWAT Team and placed under arrest.
