Petersburg man killed in rollover accident on Burlington Pike Sunday evening

A Petersburg man was killed in an accident on Burlington Pike at Botts Lane in Burlington at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Donald W. Attebery, 48, of Petersburg was traveling westbound on Burlington Pike (KY 18) when his vehicle overturned.

The accident caused the roadway to be shut down for more than three hours.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office released the following statement regarding the accident:

On Sunday, April 7, 2019 at approximately 9:36 pm, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Burlington Pike (KY18) and Botts Lane for a report of an injury accident. 

Upon arrival, deputies located a 2000 Jeep Cherokee which had been traveling westbound on Burlington Pike, overturned onto the driver’s side with a single occupant who had been partially ejected from the vehicle. 

The vehicle appeared to have traveled off of the right side of the roadway into an embankment which caused the vehicle to overturn. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The deceased has been identified as Donald W. Attebery, 48, of Petersburg, KY.  Next of kin have been notified.

Speed and wet roadways are suspected contributing factors in the collision.  Drug or alcohol impairment is unknown at this time pending toxicology reports.

Attebery was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision.  The roadway was reopened at 0105 hours. 

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation. An update will be provided once next of kin has been notified.
