A giant horse-centric trade fair and exhibition to debut at Kentucky Horse park in fall of 2020

Equitana, a giant horse-centric trade fair and exhibition, will debut Equitana USA at the Kentucky Horse Park in the fall of 2020, according to Laura Prewitt, Kentucky Horse Park executive director.

The announcement was made Thursday in Germany that the fair will begin a three-year run that Prewitt said park leaders hope becomes a permanent “signature event.”

Instead of renting the park as a venue, Equitana parent Reed Exhibitions will be a partner with the park. Prewitt said the state will receive a portion of any profits in exchange for park staff assistance and use of the facilities.

“We look forward to collaborating with Reed Exhibitions to make Equitana USA one of our signature events and I am confident the community will embrace the opportunity to welcome guests from around the world,” Prewitt said in a news release.

Reed Exhibitions has established Equitana Germany as a huge event that draws 200,000 people over nine days to Essen. It’s billed as an equestrian sports world trade fair.

However, in Kentucky, it will be a three-day fair with a variety of exhibitions, Prewitt said.

“I cannot think of a better venue for Equitana USA than the Kentucky Horse Park,” said Marie Browne, Group Vice President at Reed Exhibitions.

“Over the past several months our team, along with the Kentucky Horse Park team, has been outlining what will be featured and we look forward to sharing more details in the next several months.”

“Debut” is not really the correct term. “Welcome back to Kentucky” is appropriate, because Equitana USA was an annual Kentucky event a decade ago, when it was held at the state fairgrounds in Louisville. I believe 2001 was the last year.
