Turfway Park selections for Thursday

Turfway Park provides expert picks to the Northern Kentucky Tribune during the live racing meets.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14:

Race 1

JEWELISA comes off a game win and can make it two in a row for Chip Brownfield with Azael DeLeon back up. LIAR’S SMOKER has the speed to make the lead and figures to be tough to catch. SPEARETTE is a contender.

Race 2

MY DARK SECRET was second when dropped to this level last out. She was well clear of the third-place finisher in that one and a similar effort would be good enough to win tonight. DON’T HOLD QUEENS was second in her Turfway debut and should move forward off that performance. CHOPPYCHOPPYCHOPPY is a contender.

Race 3

MISS FAHRENHEIT gets the nod in a fairly weak maiden claimer. BODE ON TAP has been off since 2017 but has trained steadily for Helen Pitts and has to be considered. BACI BACI is a first-timer with decent works.

Race 4

THEA BEE stopped badly last out after pressing the pace but drops in for a tag tonight. She figures to make the lead and appears to be in a good spot for the wire-to-wire win. SNOW BLOSSOM just missed at this level last out and looks like the one to beat. SAMURAI’S GARDEN didn’t show much in her debut but Tom Drury has excellent numbers with second-time starters and this one is eligible to improve.

Race 5

ONLY PRAISE ME is back in against bottom claimers and gets the nod at this level. RUSTY HALO has been off since August but has faced better and is the one to beat. SYLVESTER YOLY rates a chance.

Race 6

VIDA LEVA EU is a consistent runner from the barn of Eduardo Caramori. She was a beaten favorite last out but can make amends with a win tonight. SHYLA has  run well in both of her Turfway starts and looks tough in this spot. PUPPY ON A STRING comes off two dull races but could wake up in this one.

Race 7

MY MIDNIGHT AFFAIR ran well in her Turfway debut and should move forward off that effort. She has the tactical speed to be in contention throughout and rates the edge in a solid maiden race. BEE BALM beat the top pick last out and gets blinkers for this one. She figures to be tough again tonight. TALE OF TIARA could run well at decent odds.

Race 8

FAYETTE WARRIOR was a bit rank and didn’t run his best race last out. He is capable of better and can win this one for Wes Ward with Julio Garcia aboard. WELLES CROWTHER had a rough trip in the Forego but ran well in his two prior races for Laura Wohlers. He had a bullet work Feb. 3 and figures to be tough to handle tonight. HALLIE’S HERO is a solid threat.

Race 9

TWINKLING KNIGHT came off a very long layoff and just missed last out. He will definitely move forward off that one and rates the edge with Prescott picking up the mount for Darrin Miller. TOP MENTION also needed his last race after a 10-month layoff. If he takes to the Poly he will be hard to beat. SHACKLED is a contender in a well matched claiming test.
