Mansion Hill Bridal to open boutique in restored historic building in Newport’s East Row district

Mansion Hill Bridal will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a brand new bridal boutique in Newport on Friday.

The boutique is located in a 124-year-old building in the East Row Historic District at 402 Overton Street.

Amanda and Claire Canter

The ribbon-cutting is at 3 p.m.

The tired building was completely historically preserved and restored to the 1894 building’s original historic charm.

Owner Claire Canter, is a 24-year-old design graduate from The Fashion School at Kent State University. Her journey began almost 1 year ago, when the mother-daughter team of designers noticed the potential in the building.

Claire and her mother, Amanda Canter, (an interior designer who graduated from UC, who now builds custom homes) took on the huge project together. Claire had experience working in this industry in Florence, Italy, NYC and Walt Disney World, which helped to prepare her to start her own business right here in Newport.

The location is just blocks from Newport on the Levee. Mansion Hill Bridal is attempting to add to the progression of Newport on the Levee which has been spurred by new ownership and major revitaliztion.

The building was built in 1894, and most recently housed the Overton Market. It was originally built as a butcher shop, a barber shop, and a drug store (based on the old ads for Gruel’s Greaseless Cream).

While many neighbors have watched the exposure, rebuilding, and transformation of the exterior storefronts, there are many wonderful things that have been happening on the inside as well!

The owners have created unique window displays from discarded vintage building materials.

At Mansion Hill Bridal, each bride-to-be can find her dream wedding dress, as well as a memorable, elegant and stress-free shopping experience!

Mansion Hill Bridal is a by-appointment-only bridal boutique that features a wide selection of wedding dresses, veils, accessories, jewelry and headpieces.
