The Kentucky Crafted Market, the Kentucky Arts Council’s showcase event featuring the best art and craft in the Commonwealth, will be back in Lexington, March 15-17 at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena.
“This is the first time we’ve hosted The Market at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena, and we’re looking forward to taking advantage of every feature of this unique venue,” said Chris Cathers, arts council interim executive director. “The proximity of the Horse Park to Interstates 75 and 64 make it easily accessible to folks traveling through central Kentucky.”
The Market will be open to the public 10 a.m.-6 p.m. March 16 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. March 17. The event will be open only to registered buyers for Trade Only Day, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. March 15. Tickets for the public days are $8 daily at the door or $7 if purchased in advance online. Children 15 and under are admitted free with a paying adult.
Dozens of Kentucky’s best visual and craft artists, all adjudicated members of the arts council’s Kentucky Crafted program, will exhibit and sell their work at The Market.
“We like to say this is the largest gathering of the best Kentucky artists under one roof,” Cathers said.
In addition to superior artwork, The Market will feature musical acts from the arts council’s adjudicated Performing Artists Directory, the popular Hands-On Activities area for people of all ages, the arts council’s traveling exhibit The Kentucky Veteran Project and delicious culinary creations from selected Kentucky Proud food vendors.
An added attraction at this year’s Market will be the Woven Treasures area. Arts council partners including the Kentucky Folklife Program, Western Kentucky University Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology, and the Basket Maker’s Catalog will present outstanding traditional basket makers alongside the traveling exhibit Basketmaking: Our Handmade Heritage. Visitors of all ages will watch basket makers at work, hear their stories and try their hand at some basket related activities.
