NKY Women’s Initiative honoring nonprofit Lincoln Grant Scholar House at annual breakfast on Jan. 15

The Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission Lincoln Grant Scholar House is the Nonprofit Recipient for the NKY Chamber Women’s Initiative’s 10th Annual Breakfast, sponsored by PNC on Tuesday, January 15.

The Lincoln Grant Scholar House assists single parents who are pursuing a college degree by giving them and their children a safe place to live. Residents benefit from academic, career, and community services to help them break the cycle of poverty and give their children a better life with more opportunities. Attendees are encouraged to support the residents of the Lincoln Grant Scholar house with food for the food pantry, household cleaning items, school supplies, gift cards, and monetary donations.

“The Lincoln Grant Scholar House’s primary objective is to work alongside our families to allow them to dream again and empower them with tools and resources they need to thrive,” said Catrena Bowman-Thomas, Executive Director of the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission.

“We believe in the resilience, intelligence, and resourcefulness of all the Northern Kentuckians that we serve. Every conversation is an opportunity to help someone achieve their maximum potential, and this is why we do this work with intentionality and vigor.”

“It’s important to us that we support women throughout Northern Kentucky in all stages of life and career,” said Allyson Cook, Stites & Harbison, PLLC, and 2019 Women’s Initiative Annual Breakfast Chair. “We’re thrilled to partner with the Lincoln Grant Scholar House to support the residents and their families as they work to get their degrees.”

The Women’s Initiative 10th Annual Breakfast will take place at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center (1 W. RiverCenter Blvd., Covington) and feature a keynote address from Heather Howell, Director of New Product Development at Brown-Forman Corporation.

Howell developed the Emerging Brands Department within Brown-Forman Corporation and is the Brand Director of Coopers’ Craft Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey – the company’s first new bourbon released in over twenty years. Additionally, she has been recognized on local, regional, and national scales. Notable achievements include receiving Ernst & Young’s 2013 E.D.G.E. award, being named the Business First of Louisville 2014 Enterprising Woman to Watch, and a finalist of Business First of Louisville’s Business Leader of the year.

Her keynote, Surround Yourself with the Best to be the Best, will address how people within your teams influence you in negative and positive ways, and how to evaluate life and those you select to be in it.
