First-ever Kovington Karnivale this weekend: Marsquerade Bar Crawl, Cov candidate forum, Bro’Kin River reading

The first-ever Kovington Karnivale will take place this weekend Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13.

On Friday night, the festival will kick off with a Masquerade Bar Crawl beginning with a check-in at Lil’s Bagels starting at 7 p.m., where Braxton’s Brewing Co. will be serving beers from 6:30-8 p.m.

The first 100 people to sign-up will be provided with a complementary mask (courtesy of Theatre House) and pick up their key card, which will have questions and tasks for participants to complete based on Covington’s history.

The answers to these questions will be dispersed throughout The Gruff, Smoke Justis and Molly Malone’s.

Those who complete all the tasks will be entered into a raffle for a prize basket at the end of the evening. The event will end with DJ BlazeWright on the third floor of Molly Malone’s from 10-midnight.

On Saturday, the Covington Commissioner Candidate Panel will start at 3 p.m. at Lincoln Grant Scholar House (824 Greenup St.) theater which has a 200-seat capacity.

There will be three rounds of individual questions for each candidate, with each individual question followed by a brief period of open discussion.

Questions will be collected from individuals around Covington. If you have a question or there is a topic you would be interested in having discussed at this panel, email it back or submit it anonymously here.

Later on Saturday, there will be a staged reading of Bro’Kin River, a new work by local playwright Kareem A. Simpson.

Bro’Kin River is based on the true story of Margaret Garner, a Northern Kentucky slave who escaped from her plantation. Upon recapture, she took the life of her child instead of seeing her forced back into slavery. The staged reading is a condensed reenactment of the resulting court trial.
