A team of 10 public health nurses and two administrative staff members will be deploying to North Carolina to assist victims of Hurricane Florence.
The group will include nurses and administrative support staff from Bracken County Health Department, Department of Insurance, Kentucky Department for Public Health, Lexington-Fayette County Health Department and Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness.
The team will be working in local shelters in Hurricane Florence-impacted areas of North Carolina. The deployment is expected to last two weeks.
Assistance requests are coordinated and authorized through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), which is a mutual aid agreement between states and territories in the United States.
It enables states to share resources during natural and man-made disasters. Under EMAC agreements, the requesting state reimburses all associated costs incurred by the provider state. Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) is the managing authority for deployment of all Kentucky teams and assets.
