Frankfort 3-year-old dies, found unresponsive locked in a hot vehicle; police investigating

Frankfort police and the city’s coroner’s office are investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy who was found unresponsive locked inside a hot vehicle last Friday, the State-Journal reported.

Calvin Hedges, son of Tonie Columbia and Edward B. Hedges, was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m. after being transported to Frankfort Regional Medical Center, from a residence in the 300 block of Strathmore Drive.

“We are talking with multiple sources and ascertaining information on what took place,” coroner Will Harrod told the newspaper.

A cause of death has not been announced. According to Harrod, an autopsy was performed Saturday, but results will take between 12 to 14 weeks.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with family,” the Franklin County Health Department posted on its Facebook page.

“When this hits so close to home, we want to help remind all those with pets and children to always leave something like a shoe or cell phone in the back (of the vehicle) to make sure everyone gets out safe.”
