Salvation Army kicks off SAY YES! Summer Giving Campaign with donor match, 5K run and walk

The Salvation Army’s Summer Giving Campaign: “SAY YES!” asks the community to give generously this summer to help fund its  efforts during the warmer months.

Efforts include sending campers to CAMP SWONEKY, The Salvation Army’s summer camp for kids in need located in Oregonia, Ohio, as well local day camps and providing meals and recreation for kids in need while school is out. Additionally, Red Kettles will be in select Kroger stores Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in July to collect donations in person.  Donations can also always be made online at salvationarmycincinnati.org.

To support the SAY YES! Summer Giving Campaign, Oakley Farris, a prominent Covington businessman and long-time Northern Kentucky donor, who supports educational programs at all levels, is offering a generous matching donation program.

Farris said he was impressed with the high-quality Salvation Army programs for kids he saw when he visited the organization’s Covington Corps and Learning Center. Farris is generously offering a 3:1 match to support the summer day camp and Camp SWONEKY experiences for kids through the Covington and Newport Corps. For example, if Summer Giving raises $15,000, Farris will generously donate $5,000. This generous matching program allows The Salvation Army to do more to SAY YES to kids in need this summer.

Donors can join Farris and his wife Eva, in efforts to support The Salvation Army, by making a gift at salvationarmycincinnati.org and note Farris in the “honor of” designation. Donors can also mail checks to 114 E Central Parkway, Cincinnati OH, 45202 and note Farris Match in the memo section or call 513-762-5600 to make your gift locally with a credit card.

The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church, has been supporting those in need without discrimination since 1865. Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a broad array of social services. This ranges from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.

On the national level, about 82 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide. Locally, 90 cents of every dollar donated goes to provide support to greatly needed programs and services. For more information, click here.
