The Kentucky girls roster includes Ryle forward Lauren Schwartz, who was named most valuable player in the 9th Region tournament after leading her team to the title last March. One of her all-star teammates is Highlands guard Zoie Barth, who was also named to the regional all-tournament team.

Schwartz averaged 17.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game this season. Barth was one of the state’s best free throw shooters, hitting 84.6 percent, while averaging 19.2 points and 6.1 rebounds.

Walton-Verona 6-foot-10 center Dieonte Miles, who sat out most of last season with a shoulder injury that required surgery, returns to action this weekend with the Kentucky boys all-star team. He’s joined by Covington Catholic 6-foot-7 forward Nick Thelen, who averaged 5.9 points and 4.5 rebounds off the bench for the state champions.

The Kentucky-Indiana Senior All-Stars basketball games will be Friday, June 8th at Bellarmine University in Louisville and Saturday, June 9th at Bankers Life Arena in Indianapolis. The doubleheaders will begin at 6 p.m. in Louisville and 5:30 p.m. in Indianapolis with the girls game first at both sites.

The local seniors selected for the Kentucky girls all-star team are Cooper guard Lexi Held and Scott guard Anna Clephane, who were two of the top 10 scorers in the state last season. The boys all-star roster includes MeKell Burries of Newport and Adam Kunkel of Cooper.

Advance tickets for the senior all-star games are $15 and can be purchased online at kyallstars.eventbrite.com.

Ludlow hires Sullivan to fill boys basketball coaching vacancy

Dan Sullivan, a former head coach with nearly 200 wins on his career record, is taking charge of the boys basketball program at Ludlow High School.

Sullivan was an assistant principal and boys freshman basketball coach at Walton-Verona High School last year. He was selected to replace Ludlow’s former head coach Randy Wofford, who resigned in May with a 61-79 record over the past five seasons.

Sullivan has a 186-164 record in 13 years as a boys head coach. His first head coaching job was at Walton-Verona, where his teams were 60-46 in four seasons from 1990 to 1994. He then became head coach at Campbell County and compiled a 126-118 record in nine seasons from 1994 to 2003.

He had two 20-win seasons at Campbell County and the 2000-01 team won the 10th Region championship to earn a berth in the state tournament.

Sullivan is taking over a Ludlow team that posted a 6-21 record last season and had three of its top four scorers graduate.
