Four of the six Northern Kentucky athletes who won individual events at last year’s Class 1A state track and field meet will be going for the gold once again on Thursday at the University of Kentucky.

Based on results from last week’s regional meets, the four returning state champions are among the top-seeded qualifiers for the Class 1A season finale that will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The Class 2A state meet is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday with Class 3A competition at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Newport Central Catholic freshman Abby Jones is the defending Class 1A state champion in the girls 1600 run. In last week’s regional meet, she posted the top state qualifying time in that event as well as the 3200 run.

The list of returning champions in the boys small-school state meet includes Bellevue senior Seth Evers in the 100 and 200 dashes, Walton-Verona senior Seth Lawson in the 110 and 300 hurdles and St. Henry junior Logan Blaut in the pole vault.

Last year, Evers placed first in the 100 and 200 to become the first Northern Kentucky athlete to win both sprint events in the same state meet since 1993. He’ll enter Thursday’s competition as the top qualifier in the 200 and 400 events and the No. 2 seed in the 100.

Lawson is seeded No. 1 in the 110 hurdles and No. 4 in the 300 hurdles. Blaut earned the top seed in the pole vault by clearing 13 feet, 6 inches in regional competition.

Local athletes have the top qualifying times in a total of 16 Class 1A events, two Class 2A events and zero Class 3A events. Here’s a complete listing based on KHSAA state meet performance listings:
