Turfway Park selections for opening night

Turfway Park’s Mike Battaglia provides daily selections and comments for the Tribune during the live racing meets.

Selections for Wednesday, November 29

RACE 1
ZAP CAT has been running well in Canada on turf and Poly. He rates the edge with Sarvis picking up the mount. KITS GOLD broke poorly in his debut and lost his best chance. Maker drops him in for a tag for his return and he can be expected to run much better in here. SEVENHEARTSWARRIOR is a contender.

RACE 2
FOREVER SURE is a nine-year-old veteran with 21 career wins. He has run well over the Turfway Poly in the past and looks best on the class drop. BROOKLYN SPEIGHTS just broke his maiden in his 13th start but he is trained by Wes Ward has the speed to be in contention throughout. He has to be respected. BREZNO is another veteran runner with good stats on the Poly.

RACE 3
HANSEN’S GIRL has been running against better and broke her maiden over this track last year. She gets the slight edge over DELTALINA in a close call. DELTALINA has been a beaten favorite in her last two but figures to make the lead and will be tough to catch. MS. B V I looks best of the rest.

RACE 4
REPROVE is a lightly-raced three-year-old from the barn of Tom Drury. He figures to move forward in his fourth career start and looks best in here with Malcolm Franklin aboard. HUNTIN BUDDY beat the top pick in the slop at Keeneland and ran well again last out. He is definitely the main competition. MR. COMPASS has been off since September but is training well over the Turfway Poly for Mike Maker.

RACE 5
PATRIOT SONG broke his maiden by 10 lengths at Mountaineer and flashed speed against better at Keeneland and Hawthorne. He drops to the bottom for Kellyn Gorder and looks like a good bet to win this with Sarvis picking up the mount. CORRECTAMUNDO stopped badly last out but drops back to the bottom and moves to the barn of Doug Danner. COLT WESTON has been off since March but has a good record on this track..

RACE 6
MUSTANG showed big improvement in his second start. He was no match for an impressive winner in that one but ran very well to finish second. He looks like a solid bet to get his maiden win for Michael Ewing with Tommy Pompell aboard. KENTUCKY KITTEN faded badly after showing some early speed in his debut at Keeneland. He had some trouble early on in that one and is capable of better. AMMUNITION will be running at the end.

RACE 7
BIG RED SEVEN moves up in class after a romping 10-length win at Churchill. The move to Poly is a reason for concern but a repeat of that last performance would make her tough to beat in this one. UNBRIDLED COURAGE drops in for a tag and moves back to the all-weather surface where she has won three of her five races. She can rally from just off the pace and can be expected to run well at this level. KNOCKOUT GIRL owns a win on this track and is a contender.

RACE 8
MINESHAFT DIVA was third in her debut at Churchill and had to need that last race after an 11-month layoff. Give her the edge in this bottom claimer. SHE’S OBVIOUS has had 11 tries and has been a beaten favorite on several occasions but she looks like the one to beat. PUFF is another one who needed her last race and is a contender.
