NKU’s Institute for Talent Development and Gifted Studies offers Saturday Camp Innovation Oct. 21

Northern Kentucky University kicks off its Fall Camp Innovation Pathways to College Program for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. NKU’s Institute for Talent Development and Gifted Studies is accepting applications for the Saturday program that takes place from October 21 through November 4.

“We are excited to once again offer this one-of-a-kind experience to gifted and high potential youth, their parents and educators in our region,” said Dr. Kimberly Clayton-Code, director of NKU’s Institute for Talent Development and Gifted Studies. “Camp Innovation engages elementary and middle school students in critical thinking, independent learning and entrepreneurial mindset activities—all skills needed for tomorrow’s leaders.”

Camp Innovation offers transdisciplinary courses that combine science, mathematics, social studies, visual and performing arts and technology. The classes provide the opportunity for children to share interests with other students while enhancing their intellectual, academic and creative development.

“As students are engaged at Camp Innovation, their parents have the opportunity to network through our Parent Place workshops,” said Clayton-Code. “We wanted to connect the parents of our students to share their experiences and learn about resources for their gifted children. The workshops take place during Camp Innovation, so it makes it convenient for parents to attend.”

Topics for the Parent Place workshops include exploring literacy and library resources, managing the school experience and meeting the needs of gifted teens through dual-credit residential high schools.
