Paul Hemmer Company breaks ground on $80m BWI facility near Indianapolis, first in US for auto supplier

Paul Hemmer Company has broken ground and began work this week to build a new $80 million manufacturing facility east of Indianapolis for Pure Development, a national commercial real estate developer headquartered in Indianapolis.

Pure Development focuses exclusively on office, industrial and manufacturing build-to-suit projects, providing best-in-class development, design and construction coupled with aggressive long-term capital. The 276,000-square-foot facility in Greenfield, Ind., will be the first U.S. production facility for BeijingWest Industries, Co. Ltd. (BWI), a premier chassis supplier that designs and manufactures brake and suspension systems for the global automotive market.

Hemmer, based in Fort Mitchell, was selected in part due to its expertise in building new facilities to meet the technical demands of today’s advanced manufacturing.

Hemmer recently built a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ohio for UGN, a provider of acoustical technologies for the automotive industry. For that project, the Hemmer team was able to reduce costs while value-engineering a building that ensured the manufacturer is poised for growth. Hemmer has also completed significant projects for other auto parts manufacturers, including Bosch, ADVICS, and ZF Boge.

The company plans to begin hiring for machine operators, maintenance and lab technicians in February 2018 and to launch production in Greenfield by August 2019.  With its growth, BWI expects to increase its production by 4 million parts per year to meet the continued demand from its customers, which include Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Ford, General Motors, Honda and Porsche.
