The Union Marketplace store, Kroger’s 18th Marketplace in the region, will open its doors at 7 a.m., with the first 300 customers receiving a $10 Kroger gift card. Beginning at 8 a.m., there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony. Located at 9001 Highway 42, the new Kroger store is 135,000 square feet and is a more than $31 million investment. The new store will employ 500 associates.

Unique features to this store include a Bistro area with fresh chicken, sandwiches, traditional pizza, BBQ, bowls and wraps and Pan Asian/Sushi; an apparel department, expanded Meat/Seafood, Produce, Deli/Bakery departments; and a Murray’s Cheese Shop. The new Marketplace will also have a full service bank and Starbucks. Union will offer ClickList – Kroger’s online shopping program, which is scheduled to open in mid-October.

In addition, Union will have an expanded Pharmacy department and drive-thru, plus The Little Clinic, which is staffed by board certified nurse practitioners and offers convenient medical care for the entire family, ages 12 months and older. No appointment is necessary and The Little Clinic is open seven days a week, including evenings.

The Union store will also open an additional fuel station for the community with the existing fuel center staying open for business. There will also be a new separate liquor store, which will offer beer and wine tastings.

The Grand Opening Celebration is packed with special events. The Boone County High School Marching Band will have a special performance and announce the ribbon cutting during an 8 a.m. Thursday morning ceremony. In addition, the Boone County Honor Guard will present the colors followed by the singing of the National Anthem by Kroger Associate Carly Sholler.

Jim Betas, Union Marketplace manager and Kroger employee for 28 years and his team invite you to come and enjoy the new store.

“Union is such an incredible community and we’re excited to be opening our doors,” says Betas. “We’re thrilled to offer our shoppers more product varieties and expanded services. We invite all customers from the surrounding communities to stop in to see and experience all that the new Marketplace has to offer. Once you do, you won’t want to shop anywhere else. We really are the one stop shopping destination for the Union area.”
