Florence Freedom to recognize Northern Kentucky’s first pro baseball team on Covington Blue Sox night

The Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, will turn back the clock on Thursday, August 17 and honor Northern Kentucky’s first professional baseball team during ‘Covington Blue Sox Night’ at UC Health Stadium in Florence.

Covington Blue Sox Night, presented by Smoke Justis, will pay homage to the 1913 Covington Blue Sox of the Federal League. The Freedom will trade in their normal home uniforms for vintage turn-of-the-century-style baseball uniforms, fully equipped with knickers and beanies.

To continue the celebration of baseball in Covington, the Freedom will donate 20 percent of ticket sales that use the online special offer code of “Covington” to the Crosstown youth baseball league.

“This is a night I hope the whole city of Covington, and Northern Kentucky, can get behind because it’s going to be a lot of fun remembering our baseball past while we support our youth baseball future,” Covington Mayor Joseph Meyer said.

Meyer will throw out the ceremonial first pitch with a golden baseball, just like Covington Mayor George “Pat” Phillips did back in 1913 during the Blue Sox home opener.

Other promotions on August 17 include:

*Covington Guns & Hoses: Covington Police vs Covington Fire softball game (pre-game)

*Parade on the field by the Crosstown youth baseball league (pre-game)

*$1 12oz domestic beer, $4 20-ounce craft beer

Fans can click here for ticket information. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with the gates opening at 5:35 p.m. for the pre-game softball game.
