U.S. News Best High Schools in Kentucky: Five Northern Kentucky high schools rank in top 20


U.S. News & World Report this week released its list of 2017 Best High Schools.

These rankings evaluated data on more than 22,000 public high schools to identify which ones were best at preparing students for college and careers, and awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals to more than 6,000.

Highlands High School was ranked third best in the state, behind Dupont Manual High in Jefferson County and North Oldham High School in Goshen.

Highlands is the only NKY high school with a Gold Medal rating. Highlands was #273 nationally.

The four other NKY high schools on the Kentucky Top 20 list received Silver Medal ratings. They are Beechwood High School, #5 in Kentucky and #628 nationally; Campbell County High School, #11 in Kentucky and #1237 nationally; Conner High School, #14 in Kentucky and #1307 nationally; and Randall K. Cooper High School, #17 in Kentucky and #1444 nationally.

Kentucky assesses high school students with end-of-course exams in English II, Algebra II, biology and U.S. history.

High school graduation requirements in Kentucky call for a minimum of 22 credits earned, including the completion of a course on the history and appreciation of visual and performing arts.

Among the 2017 U.S. News Best High Schools in Kentucky, there are four gold medal schools, 35 silver medal schools and 47 bronze medal schools.
