Vic Dawn and Scott Schoulties, Campbell County natives and residents who operate the successful Riverside grocery store chain in Northern Kentucky, have purchased the Flagg Springs Golf Course.
A 19-year-old public golf course, Flagg Springs Golf Course sits on more than 120 rolling acres of Campbell County countryside where the AA Highway meets Smith Road just north of the Pendleton County line.
Dawn and Schoulties – who operate Marketplace grocery stores in Dayton, Ludlow, and California — purchased the course from Northern Kentucky businessman Jack Morris.
Terms were not disclosed.
The new owners plan to make major improvements to the course. They also plan to hold special events and tournaments and offer attractive deals on golf, food and drinks and change the name of the course.
“What I’ve learned from many years in the grocery business is that if you give people what they want, they will come,” Dawn said. “We are going to give people great golf, food, and drinks at a good value, and we are going to make sure they have a fun and challenging experience playing golf.”
The course is temporarily closed until Saturday, April 23, while the owners make major improvements and enhancements to the links.
In the interim, Flagg Springs members and regular golfers can play at the Northern Kentucky Golf Club – formerly the Pendleton County Country Club — which is located 15 minutes south of Alexandria on U.S. 27, or the A.J. Jolly Golf Course in southern Campbell County just outside of Alexandria.
A Grand Opening Open is scheduled Saturday, April 23, with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Foursome costs are $150 for non-members and $110 for members, which includes donuts and coffee, lunch and prizes. Space is limited to 100 golfers.
