Third Honor Flight of the year left CVG this morning with veterans and their guardians; to return at 9 p.m.

Tri-State veterans and their guardians took off from CVG this morning on the third Honor Flight of the year, offering veterans the opportunity to see their memorials and participate in ceremonies honoring their service to their country.

Honor Flight Tri-State’s sole mission is to fly veterans 65+, who served stateside or overseas, to their memorials in Washington, D.C. at no cost.

All veterans traveling on this flight are from the Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana area.

The trip will include visits to the World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Iwo Jima, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the US Air Force Memorial and other Washington D.C. sights.

Attendees were on an American Airlines chartered flight. Each veteran is accompanied by a guardian.

The flight was scheduled to depart CVG at 7:40 a.m. It was preceded by bagpipes from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, and special remarks in the welcome point area on the lower level of the CVG Terminal building, all beginning at 5:45 a.m.

The return flight to CVG will arrive at 8:35 p.m. Members of the public are invited to attend the welcome home celebration at the welcome point in the Terminal, which will take place around 9 p.m.

This is the third Honor Flight Tri-State of the year.

The final Honor Flight of the year will take place on October 25th.
