A petting zoo. Interactive games. A touch-a-truck. And plenty of prizes.
Families will find all that and more at Read Ready Covington’s Early Childhood Fall Festival at 4293 Winston Ave. on Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, where learning will happen alongside an array of fun activities.
The Early Childhood Fall Festival is free and will give families with children ages 5 and under plenty of activities that demonstrate simple, fun ways to stimulate their child’s brain with positive connections.

“Studies have consistently shown that 90 percent of the human brain develops during these first five years, and families can have the greatest impact on a child’s development during this time,” said Mary Kay Connolly, director of Read Ready Covington, the City’s early literacy initiative. “Our assortment of interactive games and tips for families, along with the cool prizes, touch-a-truck, and snacks will be the right amount of stimulation to capture everyone’s curiosity and is guaranteed to bring smiles to faces young and old.”
Earlier this year, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s Office of Early Childhood released new early childhood state standards. As a companion to those standards, they created “Family Guides,” or documents, to provide families and caregivers with simple, effective activities to stimulate development and ensure that more children are prepared for success in kindergarten. Access to those documents will be available to families at the festival.
“Young children learn through play, and this year’s Fall Festival will be filled with family fun learning activities for children from birth to 5 years old,” said Lisa McNee, executive director of Funshine Childcare, one of the organizations providing activities, prizes, information, and treats at the fair. “This event is going to be a great opportunity for children and families to engage and learn together. Stations with early learning activities such as sensory bins and face painting will be available for all young children. This will be a great opportunity to have fun and learn at the same time.”
