Railroad enthusiasts and anyone interested in learning about Ludlow’s rich railroad history are invited to the Railroad Heritage Festival on the City Plaza and railroad grounds on Saturday, October 1, from 12-4 p.m. for a tour of the grounds and interior of the lone remaining brick structure in the railyards.

Built in the late 1880s as a Storehouse and office space, the structure, owned by Norfolk Southern, was leased for up to ten years to the Heritage Museum in 2021. Payments for the lease, insurance, and architectural plans for the grounds and building were raised through private donations and volunteer work by local citizens and the Ludlow Historic Society.

The building is a late Victorian structure with rounded windows. The Museum aims to preserve the structure and use the interior as a new museum space and a venue for community events.

The festival will include live music, food and drink vendors, railroad displays, visits to the Museum and a restored Southern Railroad caboose and a train viewing station, as well as an inside look at the railyards Storehouse. Chris Mayhew, native of Ludlow and recent president of the Cincinnati Railroad Society, will give a presentation on “Ludlow Railroad History in Photos” In the City Building Community Room on the plaza grounds — located at 49 Elm St.
