Last day to register to vote in November election is October 11; veterans can now register at VA facilities

Secretary of State Michael Adams has announced a partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to provide voter registration information and assistance to Kentucky veterans and eligible dependents at VA facilities across the state.

The announcement, which was made on Tuesday, coincides with Sept. 20 being National Voter Registration Day.

“Up until now, Kentuckians could register to vote at drivers licensing facilities and public assistance agencies, but not Veterans Affairs facilities,” said Adams. “I am proud that we are making it easier for veterans to participate in the democracy they put their lives on the line to protect.”

Under the partnership, select VA facilities in Kentucky will be designated as voter registration agencies under the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.

“Keeping our nation’s sacred obligation to Veterans includes making sure that they can fully participate in our democratic process through voting,” said Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Donald Remy.

“Veterans have sacrificed greatly to protect the rights and freedoms that define us all as Americans, and it is our solemn duty to make sure that they are able to enjoy those rights and liberties here at home.”

Tuesday’s announcement of the agreement comes after months of talks between the VA and Adams’ Office.
