The stage has been set for the final event in the yearlong celebration of the Covington Business Council’s 50th anniversary — the long-awaited CBC Annual Dinner, Thursday, December 1st at 5 p.m. at the new North by Hotel Covington!
The Council will be one of the first groups to utilize the 500-seat venue, the site of the former YMCA Building at Pike Street and Madison Avenue.
Jack Moreland
This year’s event will be even more memorable as the CBC honors a civic icon, Jack Moreland with its Founder Award. The Founder Award honors an individual who demonstrates meritorious service in improving the economic well-being of Covington. It is handed down in honor of the founders of the Covington Business Council.
Moreland retired in 2021 as President of Southbank Partners and the Newport Southbank Bridge Company. Jack’s work enhanced Southbank’s outreach efforts to the state legislature in getting funding for significant projects such as Riverfront Commons. This eleven-mile, uninterrupted walking and bike path was launched in Covington and expands from Ludlow in the east to Fort Thomas in the west. Southbank provides a unified advocacy voice and strategy for the southern riverfront.
Before taking the helm at Southbank, Moreland spent 38 years in education, serving as superintendent at Dayton Independent Schools for 19 years, superintendent at Covington Independent Public Schools for eight years, and as interim president at Northern Kentucky University for a year. He also spent a year as interim chancellor of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.
In 2018, Moreland was honored by the NKyTribune as a NEWSMAKER and has recieved numerous other accolades for his service to the community.
The Annual Dinner will also feature a video of the different activities celebrating CBC’s Golden Anniversary:
• A breakfast launch in March, celebrating other community businesses/agencies significant birthdays and hearing an inspiring message of Covington through the eyes and voice of Mayor Joe Meyer ,
• A luncheon in April where former Executive Directors shared their persevering efforts to not only keep the CBC afloat but also ensure its future viability ,
• A summer Cocktail party at Lisse Steakhuis accompanied by live music on the outdoor patio ,
• A sponsor-only bourbon social hour at Wenzel Whiskey in the restored historic Pickle Factory.
