Kenton County’s 911 Dispatch operating out of Cov government center this week, fully functioning

This week Kenton County Emergency Communications (911 Dispatch), normally headquartered in Independence, is operating out of the Kenton County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Covington while their building undergoes maintenance.

The Emergency Operations Center is designed so that 911 Dispatch can function there in the event the Independence location is disabled due to emergency or needed building closure.

“When we designed the Kenton County Government Center, a priority goal was improving public safety, including having a fully functional back-up 911 Dispatch site,” said Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann. “The EOC is designed to technologically support this use, as well as provide quality training space for our emergency management team and other public safety agencies.”

“The existence of the EOC is a substantial step forward for emergency communications in Kenton County. We have the first fully redundant dispatch center in the tri-county area,” said 911 Dispatch Executive Director Ashley Hawks. “This allows us to provide essential and life-saving services to our citizens even if our Independence location is impacted or compromised by events.”

Kenton County Emergency Communications Center serves all cities and unincorporated areas within Kenton County in cooperation with 30 different agencies. It is the fourth busiest dispatch center in the Tri-State area for 9-1-1 calls.
