Brossart continued its regular season winning streak and three local teams won their first game under a new head coach in high school football action on Friday.
After falling behind, 12-0, in the first quarter, Brossart scored 28 straight points and defeated Dayton, 28-18, to post its 12th straight victory in regular season games.

The Mustangs, whose only loss last season came in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A playoffs, took the lead in the second quarter on touchdown runs by seniors Evan Orth and Austin Schadler, a two-point conversion by Orth and a point-after kick by Tyler Smith.
Orth scored again in the third quarter and junior defensive back Alex Amin returned a pass interception for Brossart’s final touchdown. The Mustangs played the second half without starting quarterback Keegan Gulley, who was injured and left the field in an ambulance.
Dixie Heights, Simon Kenton and Campbell County were the three teams that won season openers under new head coaches.
Simon Kenton coach Roy Lucas Jr. watched the Pioneers score touchdowns on their first seven possessions to take a 49-0 halftime lead and then coast to a 56-16 win at Oldham County.
Dixie Heights edged Lloyd, 13-12, to post its first win under coach Patrick Burke. Campbell County got past Newport Central Catholic, 28-18, in Brian Weinrich’s debut as Camels’ head coach.

Elder took a 28-0 lead in the first half and went on to defeat Covington Catholic, 42-21. After getting only 81 yards in the first half, CovCath’s offense came alive after changing quarterbacks and finished with 317 yards.
Junior quarterback Evan Pitzer completed 12 of 18 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns for the Colonels. Owen Leen got the team’s other TD on a 22-yard run.
Boone County recovered a fumble and was able to run out the clock to get past Russell, 20-18, while Holmes rolled to a 68-12 win over Grant County. That’s the most points the Bulldogs have scored in a game in more than 20 years.
Ryle lost to Lexington Catholic, 27-21, in a battle between two explosive offensive teams. One of the Raiders’ touchdowns came on an impressive 57-yard catch-and-run by Kaden Gardner, who broke tackles and zig-zagged through defenders.
