Burlington woman celebrating early holiday surprise with $100,000 Kentucky Lottery scratch off win

A Burlington woman (who wishes to remain anonymous) was pleasantly surprised after she recently bought a Kentucky Lottery Scratch-off ticket – and won $100,000.

She bought the $30 Gold Rush ticket at JD’s Food Mart on Burlington Pike in Burlington after cashing in a previous winning ticket.

While scratching off the ticket at home, she matched the number 42 on the second to the last row. The game’s $100,000 top prize was located below the 42.

“I always expect to win thirty dollars but was very surprised to see one hundred thousand. I started calling for my fiancé and handed him the ticket and said, “Please tell me I’m seeing this right,” she said.

“We were jumping up and down and hugging” she said.

The Boone County woman drove to lottery headquarters in Louisville on Wednesday where she received a check for $71,000, after taxes.

She told lottery officials she would like to use the winnings toward home renovations. “I can sit back and take time to decide what I want to do.”

“It (winnings) will make my life so much simpler,” she said.

JD’s Food Mart will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
