Sanitation District No. 1, City of Elsmere to partner on drainage improvements at Plymouth, Feather Lanes

Sanitation District No. 1 will partner with the City of Elsmere to improve drainage along Plymouth Lane and Feather Lane as part of a larger road reconstruction project.

Part of Plymouth Lane currently drains to a set of catch basin inlets at the cul-de-sac, and the long drainage path tends to spread stormwater across the road, creating a driving hazard. Additionally, the large drainage area overwhelms the system at the end of the cul-de-sac, causing flooding to the roadway and adjacent properties. In the same area, Feather and Pilgrim lanes drain to a sag on Feather Lane, which is served by a set of inlets that are inadequate and cause street flooding.

The planned storm drainage improvement will capture the runoff with a new set of storm inlets before it reaches the cul-de-sac and the street sag, which will improve the drainage issues in the area.

The project will be funded through SD1’s Storm Water Public Cost-Share Program, which offers SD1 stormwater co-permittee municipalities an opportunity to split the cost of new stormwater infrastructure that addresses drainage issues associated with a dedicated and accepted right-of-way, or that are caused by or related to public infrastructure drainage.

SD1 will contribute 50 percent of the cost of the $259,000 Plymouth Lane/Feather Lane drainage project, for a total contribution of $129,500.
