Life Learning Center, the Covington-based nonprofit organization that helps people transform their lives for long-term success, will host its annual gala Saturday, Oct. 9 at PromoWest Pavilion at Ovation.
An invite-only VIP reception kicks the event off at 6 p.m., followed by cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. The event will also include dinner, which begins at 7 p.m., featuring the roast of this year’s featured guest, St. Elizabeth Healthcare President and CEO Garren Colvin.
Roasting Colvin will be DBL Law Managing Partner Robert M. (Bob) Hoffer, New Perceptions Inc. Executive Director Shawn Carroll and St. Elizabeth Foundation ambassador/emergency room nurse Terry M. Foster, who is also a part-time comedian. Rounding out the evening will be a special 1-hour “Songwriter’s Roundtable” featuring Kelley Lovelace and Chris DeStefano who have both written hits for Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean among others.
Ft. Mitchell resident “Big” Dave Chandler of radio station WUBE B-105 FM will serve as the emcee of this year’s event, which also features a raffle with several prizes, including a “gift card extravaganza” featuring $2,000 worth of shopping opportunities, a 10-year-old bottle of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon and the grand prize of a seven-day and six-night vacation for up to 10 people at Kentucky Eagles Ranch in in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Concierge service for planning excursions and activities as well as complimentary use of two provided vehicles are included in the vacation package.
PromoWest Pavilion at Ovation and its parent company, AEG Presents, require all guests in attendance to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
Life Learning Center hopes to raise $250,000 in revenue from the event, which is its biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds will benefit its 12-week Foundations for a Better Life program, which provides at-risk people the necessary tools and support to sustain a living-wage career in the wake of overcoming poverty, incarceration and/or addiction.
The program is an extension of the Center’s focus on barriers in five domains of life – emotional, financial, physical, spiritual and relational – that can hinder an individual’s ability to enjoy a career and lead to feelings of hopelessness, and being rendered unemployable.
“Our annual gala is not only our biggest fundraiser of the year, but also a fantastic and fun opportunity to showcase the positive impact we make on our community at Life Learning Center,” said agency President, Alecia Webb Edgington. “Garren Colvin is a fantastic leader who continues to advocate for the health of our region; with this event, we will further that charge by raising the necessary funds to assist all we serve on a daily basis. This includes the 654 applicants that Life Learning Center served in 2020 alone.”
Individual tickets for this year’s annual gala are $150, which includes dinner and open bar, and $250, which also includes two tickets for each raffle.
