Kenton County gets $9.6M grant from U.S. DOT to improve east-west link on KY 536 corridor

Kenton County has been awarded $9,640,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) “Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development” (BUILD) grant program.

Kris Knochelmann

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell contacted the Assistant Secretary at DOT in support of his constituents’ competitive grant application and their work to improve the “east-west link” across Campbell, Kenton, and Boone counties in Northern Kentucky.

“Continued investment into Northern Kentucky’s infrastructure will support the region’s economic growth and its bright future,” said McConnell.

Kenton County plans to use the funding to continue improvement on the “east-west link” across Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties by focusing on the KY-536 corridor from US 25 to KY 17, which provides a connection between I-75 and the City of Independence. The project will also involve intersection improvements, a roundabout conversion and other upgrades. The current corridor features narrow lanes and sharp turns that are not conducive to the increasing traffic.

“I’m very appreciative of Senator McConnell’s assistance with and support for Kenton County’s BUILD grant application,” said Kenton County Judge-Executive Kris Knochelmann.

Old Mitch always comes through at election time handing out money. Otherwise, he’s busy feathering the nest of his big contributors. Of course his wife being Secretary of Transportation in Trump’s cabinet is a nice little fund he can draw from. This has corruption written all over it. DON’T BE FOOLED! THIS IS AN ELECTION BRIBE!!!

Jeff, why would you complain about getting some of our tax dollars back? We all send our federal taxes to Washington. I’m all open for it returning to Kentucky to be spent on improvements. Better than some other politician in a different state getting it and us being left with horrible roads. It’s not all bad having Mitch at the top of the senate.
But ultimately I understand your frustration. The voting masses need to get behind a push for term limits for congress. That would fix and uncountable amount of problems in this country if we could force term limits upon those that rule our daily lives and make laws for us to have to abide by.

Jeffery let ask you a question the improvements for 536 has been around for years Boone County got their money years ago now Kenton County gets theirs. This will impact traffic businesses and future developments all good for the county and city of Independence. Why try to make a political argument when it something that has already been approved but not funded until now. Do you live in Boone Kenton or Campbell County or just trying to make trouble for the people that do?
