Northern Kentucky University hosts annual ‘DreamFest’ conference for talented students

Northern Kentucky University will host the region’s brightest elementary and middle school students for the 2020 DreamFest Conference, an annual day of learning and enrichment.

This event marks the 35th year DreamFest will be held at NKU.

Nearly 800 students from 13 northern Kentucky public school districts will connect on March 20.

DreamFest is a collaborative event organized by the Northern Kentucky Association of Gifted Educators (NKAGE), the Northern Kentucky Cooperative for Educational Services (NKCES) and NKU’s Institute for Talent Development and Gifted Studies.

“Our region has so many wonderful resources, and a wealth of knowledge to share,” said Shannon Gusbser, gifted and talented coordinator for Newport Independent Schools and the president of NKAGE. “Our NKAGE team collectively coordinates this event that unites volunteer experts and gifted and talented students in one location. It is such a memorable day for everyone that attends.”

More than 55 breakout sessions will be offered in 10 areas of giftedness—from language arts and mathematics to performing arts and leadership. Local professionals and teachers will lead each session for the students in fourth through eighth grades.

“DreamFest is a premier event for our gifted and talented students here in northern Kentucky and across the region. Hosting the conference is a highpoint of our spring semester,” said Dr. James Allen, interim dean of NKU’s College of Education. “Similar to the previous 34 years, we look forward to developing and empowering our talented community to be future leaders, innovators and achievers.”
