Fifth multi-faith Community Christmas is at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

When some Presbyterians, some Catholics and some members of the Church of Jesus Christ get together, it becomes a bar –– a bar of music.

That bar becomes an entire festival of music and message, a festival which has now lasted five years.

It’s proof that music hath charms to overcome differences and join in celebration of the Christmas season.

The fifth annual Community Christmas, hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be held on Sunday, December 15, at 6 p.m. at the church building at 144 Buttermilk Pike, Lakeside Park.

This annual event has grown considerably over the five years it has been hosted and planners expect around 300 to attend this year. A Catholic choir, a host of youthful LDS missionaries and believers from a variety of traditions will sing and lead those assembled in traditional carols.

Included in this gift-giving season will be an opportunity to support Mary Rose Mission of Florence, which invites hungry guests to dine six evenings a week.

When Cindy Karris, who founded this ministry, takes a few moments to explain the Mission’s work supported by volunteers, she will be following four other charitable endeavors who have benefitted from a generous free-will offering taken in previous years.

While neither Santa nor Saint Nick will be making an appearance, the spirit of generosity and joy they represent will shine in the welcoming environment and delicious treats with which decorated tables will be laden.

Planners expect that many guests will renew connections made in previous years, while new friendships are formed as well.

It’s a Community Christmas indeed and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for those who want the best seats.
