Thomas More volleyball extends winning streak to nine with four-set triumph at Cumberland (Tenn.) on Friday

LEBANON, Tenn. — Emily Mohs and Jenna Mummert combined for 31 kills and seven blocks as Thomas More extended its winning streak to nine with a 25-18, 21-25, 25-13, 25-22 triumph over Cumberland (Tenn.) on Friday night.

Mohs finished with 16 kills and a .378 hitting percentage, while Mummert slammed down 15 kills and attacked at a .433 clip. Mummert also served up three aces as Thomas More limited Cumberland to a .140 hitting percentage and improved to 21-6 overall.

The Saints also remained in a tie with Lindsey Wilson atop the Mid-South Conference standings with a 12-2 mark. The Blue Raiders are ranked No. 10 nationally in the latest NAIA poll and will visit Thomas More on Thursday in a first-place showdown.

Cumberland jumped out to an 18-12 lead in the fourth set, but Thomas More stormed from behind with an 11-1 run to take a 23-19 advantage when Sawyer Lorentz converted an attack. Mohs later hammered down a kill to make it 24-22, and a Cumberland hitting error at match point gave Thomas More its ninth straight victory.

Thomas More setter Lizzie Schoenfeld dished out 32 assists and served up two aces. Lorentz added seven kills and five blocks, while Alli Borders hit .714 with five kills. The Saints attacked at a .289 clip and completed a season sweep of Cumberland, which dropped to 19-13 overall, 8-6 in the Mid-South Conference.

Madison Krumpelman scooped up a team-high 18 digs and added five kills for Thomas More, while teammate Jess Ginn finished with 17 digs. Carlee Lambert collected nine kills and three blocks. Maddie Read dished out 17 assists for the Saints.

Nicole Carey led Cumberland with 14 kills and a .458 hitting percentage. Masa Nalovic added 12 kills for Cumberland, which had knocked off Georgetown (Ky.) earlier in the week.

Thomas More plays at Campbellsville on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The Saints close out the regular season the following night with the showdown against Lindsey Wilson at the Connor Convocation Center.

GREEN BAY DEFEATS NKU: Reigning Horizon League Player of the Year Taylor Wolf finished with 22 kills and hit .286 as Green Bay defeated Northern Kentucky in four sets Friday night in Regents Hall. The Phoenix won the match by scores of 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23.

Reilly Briggs recorded 18 kills to lead NKU, which dropped to 11-12 overall, 4-7 in the Horizon League. The Norse hit .219 as a team, while Green Bay (17-6 overall, 7-2 Horizon League) attacked at a .282 clip.

Anna Brinkmann finished with 11 kills and 15 digs for NKU, which will play host to Illinois-Chicago at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
