Thomas More defeats Shawnee State, advances to Mid-South semifinals against Georgetown (Ky.)

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Jenna Mummert and Emily Mohs each recorded 14 kills as Thomas More defeated Shawnee State in four sets on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.

Mummert hit .333 and served up three aces for second-seeded Thomas More, which improved to 23-7. Mohs finished with a .294 hitting percentage as the Saints won by scores of 25-16, 19-25, 25-13, 25-17.

Maddie Read dished out a match-high 22 assists for the Saints, while Lizzie Schoenfeld added 19 helpers. Thomas More attacked at a .236 clip, compared to Shawnee State’s .100 hitting percentage.

The seventh-seeded Bears, who ended the season with an 8-27 record, held a 70-63 edge in digs but were unable to contain the Saints at the net.

Carlee Lambert added eight kills and hit .312 for Thomas More, which defeated Shawnee State for the third time this season. Madison Krumpelman finished with nine kills and three aces, while teammate Jess Ginn anchored the defense with 15 digs. Sara Crooker added 11 digs for the Saints.

Thomas More will meet third-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday. The Tigers knocked off the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Thursday by scores of 25-10, 25-15, 25-18.

In the Georgetown victory, Scott High School graduate Jessica Tapp hit .550 with 13 kills to lead the Tigers. Georgetown outhit the sixth-seeded Patriots .404 to .060.

Georgetown improved to 19-12, while the Cumberlands dropped to 17-13. Thomas More defeated Georgetown in both meetings this season.
