BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — It’s been a remarkable debut in the NAIA for the Thomas More volleyball team, which has already secured a 20-win season.

The Saints now have a chance to accomplish something few thought possible in August — win the Mid-South Conference Tournament championship and earn an automatic berth in the NAIA nationals.

Thomas More advanced to the Mid-South Conference Tournament championship match by dispatching Georgetown (Ky.) on Friday, 25-21, 26-28, 25-20, 25-8, in the semifinals. The second-seeded Saints limited the third-seeded Tigers to a .126 hitting percentage and cruised into Saturday night’s championship match against top-seeded Lindsey Wilson.

Thomas More, in its first year of NAIA competition, was picked sixth in the Mid-South Conference preseason poll. The Saints posted a 33-4 record last season and advanced to the regional finals while competing at the NCAA Division III level.

A year ago, Thomas More captured the American Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament championship. In 2017, the Saints won the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Tournament title.

Sophomore setter Lizzie Schoenfeld dished out 20 assists for Thomas More, which hit. 221. Junior setter Madison Read added 16 assists.

In Saturday’s championship match, Thomas More will face a Lindsey Wilson squad that is 28-5 and ranked No. 10 nationally in the NAIA poll. The Blue Raiders defeated the Saints last week in Crestview Hills for the conference regular-season title.

Lindsey Wilson swept past Life (Ga.) in the other semifinal contest Friday night. Alexis Smith led Lindsey Wilson with 13 kills. Elly Burke added 12 kills, and Mid-South Conference Player of the Year Kasia Niderla chipped in with 11 kills.

Camryn Rich totaled a match-high 35 assists for the Blue Raiders, who won both regular-season meetings with Thomas More.
