The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet wants motorists to be aware of this update on a major project currently underway on Interstate 75 in Boone County.

The interstate rehabilitation project is in progress on I-75 in Boone County between Mt. Zion Road (MP 178.02) and the Kenton County Line (MP 183.08).

The project consists of an asphalt pavement rehabilitation/resurfacing and the addition of auxiliary lanes on I-75 in both directions from KY 536 (Mt. Zion Road) to US 42.  Click here for more information.

Construction is expected to be completed in two phases:

• Phase 1, construction of the northbound merging lane and northbound pavement work from  the Mt. Zion Road interchange north to mile marker 183, will take place between spring and fall 2019.

Monday, Nov. 11 – Saturday, Nov. 16, weather permitting:

The high speed lane of I-71/75 southbound will be closed nightly beginning at 8 p.m. to replace lighting in the median. The lane closure will be in place from just north of the US 42 interchange to the Mt. Zion Rd. (KY 536) interchange. The lane will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m., the following morning.

Tuesday, Nov. 12 – Wednesday, Nov. 13, weather permitting:

The on-ramp from Mt. Zion Rd. (KY 536) to I-71/75 northbound, as well as the exit ramp from I-71/75 southbound to US 42 will be closed at various times between 10 p.m., Tuesday, and 5 a.m., Wednesday morning. The ramp will not be closed the entire time but will be shut down to traffic intermittently throughout the night.

Tuesday, Nov. 12 – Thursday, Nov. 14, weather permitting:

The right lane of I-71/75 northbound will be closed nightly beginning at 8 p.m.

In addition, beginning at midnight, Tuesday night/Wednesday morning and again on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, there will be rolling 15-minute full closures of the northbound lanes. All northbound lanes on I-71/75 will be closed at the Mt. Zion Rd. (KY 536) interchange for 15 minutes at various times during the overnight hours. Work will be completed, and all lanes of travel will be open by 5 a.m. Law enforcement officers will be in place to control traffic.

• Phase 2, construction of the southbound merging lane and southbound pavement work from the mile marker 183 south to the Mt. Zion Road interchange, is anticipated to take place between spring and fall 2020.

Motorists should watch for work crews, equipment, lane closures, and trucks entering and exiting traffic throughout the work zone.
