Wedding design company OKOTA, along with partners Stockyard Bank, the Catalytic Fund and the City of Covington, celebrated the grand opening of its new Covington space at 266 Pike Street with a ribbon-cutting last week.
Formerly home to a bar, the building at 266 Pike Street has undergone a dramatic makeover.
It is now the home of OKOTA, a growing business owned by Abbie Guthier.

Guthier, alongside her husband Kris and father Joe Kinnett, hand-scraped and repainted the original tin ceiling. Plaster was removed from the walls exposing the historic brick, new flooring was installed, and crystal chandeliers fill the room with light.
The space provides a bright and contemporary space to host small events and meet with clients.
OKOTA offers a full suite of wedding services, including planning, photography, floral and invitation design, dessert bar design, videography and coordination of the wedding day itself.
Guthier says that OKOTA’s name and the image of a turtle used throughout her branding were inspired by a service trip to the Lakota Reservation in South Dakota.

“The tribe tells a creation story from which turtles have come to represent a strong foundation, wisdom, and longevity,” she said.
Guthier feels that “a couple’s wedding day is the foundation of their life together” – the name and symbol capture her hopes for her clients.
OKOTA’s Pike Street location is a dream come true for Guthier.
She has long been drawn to the positive energy of the urban environment in the river cities. Many of her clients either live or visit the area for drinks, dinner and events, making it an ideal spot for her business. The flexible, elegant space offers room for consultations, photoshoots and small events. It is also often used for an entire bridal party to get ready for a wedding. She says, “with the support I received from Stockyards, The Catalytic Fund, and the City of Covington, I knew I would be in good hands.”
