Tri-State Trails, ReNewport gather volunteers to install temp bicycling facilities to ‘Connect NKY’

Tri-State Trails, ReNewport, and many volunteers installed temporary bicycling facilities on Saratoga, Fifth, and Sixth Streets in Newport on Saturday.

Connect NKY’s set-up headquarters was at the corner of Saratoga Street and E. Fourth Street. ConnectNKY aims to give residents a safe, comfortable space to try biking for everyday errands and commuting to work or school.

The grant-funded demonstration project will provide City officials with an opportunity to affordably pilot infrastructure improvements before investing to make them permanent.

The installation will remain set up through October 20.

Connect NKY is made possible by the generous support of The Devou Good Project.

Temporary on-road biking facilities were installed on:

• Saratoga Street,
from Third Street to Eighth Street;

• Sixth Street, from Columbia Street to Newport High School; and

• Fifth Street, from Monmouth Street to Saratoga Street.
