R. C. Durr Foundation awards $75,000 to Vent Haven Museum capital funds campaign for new facility

The R. C. Durr Foundation has donated $75,000 toward the Vent Haven Museum’s capital funds campaign to build a new facility.

Vent Haven is the world’s only museum dedicated to ventriloquism.

The R. C. Durr Foundation team recognized the unique contribution of Vent Haven Museum to the community as well as the clear need for improved accessibility and additional space.

The Foundation agreed that Vent Haven met their guidelines of “new or innovative projects and programs that make the larger Northern Kentucky community a better place to live, learn and work.”

“We are very grateful for the generosity and support of the R. C. Durr Foundation,” says director/curator Lisa Sweasy. “Their commitment to our success is very much appreciated.  With their support, we have now reached 75 percent of our overall campaign goal of $900,000.”

Vent Haven Museum is located in Fort Mitchell and houses nearly 1000 ventriloquists’ dummies plus photos, playbills, books, and ephemera.

The museum began as a private collection and officially opened as a public museum in 1973 with onsite performances by ventriloquism legend Edgar Bergen and Nestlé Quik spokesman Jimmy Nelson.

In the 40+ years the museum has been open to the public, the collection has doubled in size but the square footage of space has remained the same, thus the need for a new building.

The new facility will eliminate several current barriers for access and will create a new space for public performances and onsite educational programming.
