Boone County clinched the Class 4A district title in impressive fashion with a 47-0 win over Dixie Heights on Friday, Oct. 21, 1982.

Boone County running back Shane Beckett, No. 30, was a 1,000-yard rusher in 1982.

Junior tailback Shane Beckett rushed for 202 yards on 21 carries and scored three of the Rebels’ first four touchdowns in the game. In the opening seconds, he broke free on a 56-yard scoring run. His final touchdown came on a tackle-breaking 63-yard run in the third quarter.

Boone County’s other big play was a 71-yard scoring pass from quarterback Jim Beach to tight end Brad Jones in the second quarter.

Beckett went on to rush for more than 1,100 yards that season, but the Rebels lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs for the sixth consecutive year. They broke that string the following season and made it to the third round of the state playoffs under coach Owen Hauck.

Boone County became a Class 4A state power under Hauck. His took four teams to the state finals and compiled a 210-101 record in 25 years with the program.
