Fort Mitchell police arrest 19-year-old in connection to a Facebook threat against Beechwood schools

In the overnight hours of Thursday, October 10, Beechwood Independent Schools received a threat via Facebook Messenger sent to the district’s Facebook Page.

When Beechwood staff saw the message, they immediately notified the Fort Mitchell Police Department.

Fort Mitchell Police officers began investigating and, within a few hours, discovered the location of the individual who sent the threat.

Fort Mitchell Police Officers along with Fort Wright Police Officers located Thomas Lommel, a 19-year-old male, at his home in Ft. Wright.

Lommel was arrested by Fort Mitchell Police Officers without incident and charged with Terroristic Threatening in the 2nd Degree. He was lodged in the Kenton County Jail where he remains at the time of this release.

Officers subsequently conducted a search of Lommel’s residence. No weapons were located in that search, and there is no evidence that Lommel had the means to carry out his threat or that he took any steps to carry out his threat.

Beechwood Independent Schools staff along with Fort Mitchell and Fort Wright Police Officers worked in a coordinated effort to quickly investigate this threat while ensuring the safety of anyone on the Beechwood campus.

Since this occurred during Beechwood’s fall break, the immediate impact on operations was limited.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. In an effort to ensure fairness through the judicial process, the Fort Mitchell Police Department will not comment further on the threat other than to say that, along with the staff of Beechwood Independent Schools, they work each and every day to ensure the safety of everyone at Beechwood. The campus is safe, and the students are safe.

Neither Beechwood Independent School District nor the Fort Mitchell Police Department have concerns for the ongoing safety of the campus resulting from this threat. In addition to a full-time school resource officer assigned to Beechwood, Fort Mitchell Police officers routinely patrol around the campus to ensure safety to everyone on campus and throughout the city.
