Campbell County Public Library October calendar includes events and activities at all branches


The Campbell County Public Library operates four branches.

The Cold Spring Branch is located at 3920 Alexandria Pike in Cold Spring, phone 859-781-6166. The Carrico/Fort Thomas Branch is located at 1000 Highland Ave. in Fort Thomas, phone 859-572-5033. The Newport Branch is located at 901 E. Sixth St. in Newport, phone 859-572-5035. The Alexandria Branch is located at 8830 Alexandria Pike in Alexandria, phone 859-572-7463.

There are two Express locations for pickups and returns in Silver Grove and Melbourne.

Crochet for Beginners

Julia Fowler returns to teach us the basics of Crochet for both beginners and those looking to pick up the craft again.  All you need to bring is yourself, a size H or I crochet hook needle and your favorite MEDIUM WEIGHT COTTON YARN in any color you like. Ages 18 & up. Registration required.

Her Story Must Be Told: Women’s Voices from the Holocaust
Oct. 1-31
“Her Story” uniquely presents the memories, photos and stories of 15 Jewish women who
survived the Holocaust. The women are from a dozen countries, reflecting different survivor experiences. Gain an appreciation of unique ways of survival: fighting in the resistance, living in hiding or with false identity, and enduring concentration camps. Collectively, the stories of sisters, daughters, mothers, wives and friends celebrate women’s strength and valor. In addition to the primary exhibit at our Carrico/Fort Thomas Branch, a small portion of additional content will be on display at our Alexandria Branch. No need to register.

New York Times bestselling author Martha Hall Kelly will visit our Fort Thomas Branch on Friday, Oct. 18.  An autograph session and light refreshments will follow the talk.
Martha Hall Kelly is a native New Englander and author of Lilac Girls, which was an instant New York Times bestseller the week it was published in April 2016. Copies of the book will be available for purchase through our partnership with Joseph Beth Booksellers. The event is free and open to the public; however, free tickets must be requested in advance. DIY Fall Soaps

Learn about soap making and make two types of fall scented soaps to take home! First, we will learn about melt and pour soaps to create candy-scented Creepy Crawly soap for Halloween. Next, we will work with foaming bath butter to create a Pumpkin Sugar Bath Whip. In order to accommodate as many people as possible, this craft is also offered at 6:00 pm, please register for only one event. Ages 18 & up. Registration required.

Telling a People’s Story: Traveling Panel Exhibition
Oct. 16-Dec. 3
For the first time, African-American children’s illustrated literature is the focus of a museum exhibition featuring art produced for book illustrations. The presentation of this genre offers a lens into the cultural, historical, and social makeup of African-American cultural identity, while also shedding light on the long neglected world of African-American authors and illustrators in the pantheon of children’s literature. Sensory Science Story Time: Halloween

Children, all ages are invited to use all of their senses to explore stories, songs and hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities. Our ‘Sensory Science’ programs begin with a short story time that integrates movement and song, and end with hands-on STEAM exploration. Cincinnati Museum Center presents Digging for Dinosaurs
4:30 pm Friday, Oct. 4
Uncover fossils on a mock paleontological dinosaur dig. Discuss Cincinnati’s world-famous Ordovician fossils, learn how fossils are formed and unearth how to differentiate them from rock. Touchable fossils from dinosaurs including Allosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus, raptors and more make this program a junior paleontologist’s dream. Grades 1-5. Registration required.
