PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Unlike Thomas More’s previous two losses, both of which occurred in the final seconds, this one was over at halftime.

Wisconsin-Platteville built a 34-0 lead at the half and coasted to a 41-10 victory against Thomas More on Saturday. The Pioneers took advantage of four turnovers by the Saints, rolled up 362 yards of total offense and avenged last season’s 35-28 loss at Thomas More.

Quarterback Colin Schuetz led Wisconsin-Platteville (2-0) by throwing for 228 yards and three touchdowns. Schuetz also rushed for a first-quarter score and completed 18 of 27 passes.

Thomas More (1-3) lost three fumbles in addition to an interception. The Saints finished with 297 yards of total offense but fell behind 14-0 after the opening quarter and never recovered.

The game marked Thomas More’s first against an NCAA Division III opponent since transitioning to the NAIA this season. The Saints now compete in the Mid-South Conference, one of the top leagues in the NAIA.

Schuetz tossed a pair of touchdown passes in the second quarter, sandwiched around a 36-yard scoring run by Wyatt Thompson, to extend the Wisconsin-Platteville lead to 34-0 at the half. Thomas More cut the deficit to 34-7 in the third quarter when Justin Post found Da’marco Canty for a 17-yard touchdown pass.

The Pioneers countered by going 74 yards in 10 plays — capped by a 2-yard scoring run from Donald Allender — to extend their cushion to 41-7.

Post completed 18 passes in 34 attempts for 221 yards. Thomas More was held to just 51 yards on the ground in 29 rushing attempts.

Canty caught five passes for 66 yards to lead Thomas More receivers. Allender hauled in a pair of scoring passes for Wisconsin-Platteville, while Thompson led the ground attack with 96 yards on 14 carries.

Thomas More plays at Cincinnati Christian next Saturday at noon. The game will be hosted at Willard R. Stargel Stadium in Cincinnati.
