Northern Kentucky University’s President Ashish Vaidya shared NKU highlights during his remarks at the Sept. 11 Board of Regent’s meeting. Regents were pleased to hear the many accomplishments this fall, including an update on the Success by Design strategic framework that identified the university’s singular focus on advancing student success aligned with the needs of the region.
President Vaidya also highlighted the Institute of Health Innovation’s Health Pitch competition for entrepreneurs, the opening of the UK College of Medicine’s Northern Kentucky Campus and new the LIFT Scholars program that provides support for NKU students who have demonstrated academic potential but are at risk of not completing their degrees.
“There is a lot of momentum at NKU right now, and you can feel it when you’re on campus. Students are participating in more experiential learning opportunities and getting real-world experience that allows them to join the workforce without missing a beat, said Board Chair Lee Scheben. “The campus came together to develop the strategic framework and launched Further, Faster Campaign for NKU. President Vaidya’s leadership has been a strong force to guide the university, and the Board is excited about NKU’s future.”
The President updated the Board on the faculty, staff and alumni engagement during the first few weeks of the academic year. More than 550 volunteers came out for Freshman Move-in Day to help with the transition to NKU. The 20th anniversary of Victorfest provided campus connections, resources and fun events for students. Faculty and staff also took shifts stationed around campus to answer questions and provide directions. Student Affairs created the “Ask Me” campaign to show support and provide a welcoming face for new and returning students.
“NKU has made student success the focus of all efforts across the university, and I’m proud to see faculty and staff taking this to heart and embracing becoming a student-ready institution. With Success by Design moving into the implementation phase, NKU is poised to make great strides to engaging a diverse group of students and be ready with the support and resources while students attain their educational goals,” said President Vaidya.
“I appreciate the Board’s confidence, and I look forward to building on the strong foundation the campus has created.”
NKU’s three pillars of student success — access, completion and career and community engagement — will guide the campus activities and priorities. President Vaidya plans to continue the culture of collaboration and shared governance, engaging students, faculty, staff and community members on university committees.
