Awards for Linden Grove service

On Friday, August 23rd, the Friends of Linden Grove will be present awards to the following individuals who contributed significantly to the restoration of Historic Linden Grove Cemetery in Covington:

Gary Meisner of Meisner & Associates LandVision of Cincinnati;

Rick Wells, former Superintendent of Linden Grove Cemetery;

Gary Davidson, former Superintendent of Linden Grove Cemetery;

Wayne Speigel, retired Grants Manager, Kenton County Fiscal Court;

Alex Weldon, Historic preservation consultant; and

Phil Zumdick, Manager of the Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

ESNKY names new operations manager

Kevin Dorning has joined the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky (ESNKY) as Operations Manager.

For the last four years, Dorning has been working in Ohio in the mental health field.

“I am thrilled to have Kevin join us as Operations Manager and take us into the next 10+ years,” said Kim Webb, Executive Director of ESNKY. “He brings an energy and enthusiasm that will be contagious among our guests, staff. His background in Criminal Justice & Psychology will be a tremendous asset to assisting the adults experiencing homelessness in our NKY community. ”

Dorning holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in psychology from Northern Kentucky University . 

“Being able to make a difference in people’s lives, to lift their spirits and help them get on a track of being self-sufficient is a reward that is so gratifying,” shares Kevin Dorning.

Kevin and his wife Carley and three children reside in Covington.

The Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky is located at 634 Scott Street in Covington, Kentucky and is 95 percent privately funded.

UK Alumni Club to hold golf scramble for scholarships

The Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati University of Kentucky Alumni Club will host an annual celebrity golf scramble on Monday, Sept. 16 at the Summit Hills Country Club in Crestview Hills. Registration is now open to the public.

All proceeds from the event go towards providing scholarship money to deserving UK students from the club area. Registration is $140 per person. This cost includes golf, a continental breakfast, lunch, two drink tickets, and admission to the awards reception with hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine, and a silent auction. Registration and check-in begin at 9 a.m. followed by shotgun start at 10 a.m.

“The Alumni Golf Outing is our biggest fundraiser of the year to support our scholarship endowment fund,” said Lynn Amend, club president. “We award up to seven scholarships annually worth a total of $30,000 to local students in the Northern KY/Greater Cincinnati area attending UK.”
