KSP provides TruNarc training to statewide drug task force agencies, including NKY Drug Strike Force

Kentucky State Police hosted a TruNarc training for law enforcement agencies from across the state at the Drug Enforcement Special Investigations (DESI) Office on August 15.

KSP received a grant made possible through the Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy (ODCP). This grant provided new lifesaving analysis equipment to all Drug Task Agencies present at the training.

The Drug Task Force Agencies that received TruNarc training include:

The Thermo Scientific TruNarc Handheld Narcotics Analyzer

Barren County Drug Task Force

Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force

FIVCO Area Drug Enforcement Task Force (FADE)

Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force

Lake Cumberland Area Drug Task Force

Lexington Police Department Narcotics Unit

Louisville Metro Police Department Narcotics Unit

Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force

Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force

South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force

In an effort to safely combat the increasing drug problem across the Commonwealth, these Thermo Scientific TruNarc Handheld Narcotics Analyzers enable law enforcement officers to scan suspected controlled substances in a single, definitive test.

Kentucky State Police Central Forensic Laboratory Supervisor, Jeremy Triplett said the TruNarc represents a dramatic improvement in technology for presumptive roadside testing of possible drugs.

“The TruNarc Handheld Analyzer houses an electronic library of thousands of drugs which makes identifying substances found on the street simple and efficient,” said Triplett. “With the rise of potent synthetic drugs, it has become dangerous for officers to conduct field testing, as they have to handle the drugs themselves. The TruNarc instrument can actually analyze a sample through its container resulting in troopers never have to come into contact with the actual drug.”
