Greater Cincinnati Foundation makes $25k grant to Leadership NKY’s 2020 class for nonprofit giving

Laura Menge, Senior Philanthropic Advisor of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) and chair of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce’s (NKY Chamber) Leadership NKY program, announced a special partnership between GCF and the Leadership NKY Class of 2020 during the Leadership NKY annual alumni luncheon.

In support of Leadership NKY’s goals of community engagement and leadership development, GCF will give the class $25,000 to award to Northern Kentucky nonprofit(s) of their choice by the end of their program year. With these grant dollars, the class members will have the opportunity to demonstrate their community learning, collaboration, and decision-making through a meaningful charitable investment.

As a community foundation, GCF has helped generations of generous individuals, families, and companies amplify their philanthropic support in the eight-county region it has served since 1963. Since the Northern Kentucky Fund was established two decades ago to provide permanent support in communities south of the river, GCF and its donors have invested more than $40 million in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties.

“GCF works to connect people with purpose and to inspire generosity toward a more thriving region, and we believe in being generous together. This partnership with the Leadership NKY Class of 2020 aligns well with that mission,” said Menge. “We look forward to working with these 51 leaders and seeing how they will leverage and invest these dollars charitably in Northern Kentucky. This is an opportunity for them to step into the role of grantmakers and to know those challenges, responsibilities, and joys. It is meant to build their awareness and appreciation of the nonprofits doing important work in our community – and ultimately to foster a personal connection with those organizations that will last far beyond this year and these dollars.”

The Leadership NKY program utilizes the community as a classroom to help participants gain an understanding of the strengths and opportunities of the Northern Kentucky region and the skills necessary to motivate and engage others in collaborative efforts to address them. Participants undergo a substantive education by industry leaders across a diverse range of topics, including economic development, education, government, and human services.

“Each year classes ask the question in every session “What can we do about what we have learned?,” said Dawn Denham, Executive Director of Leadership Northern Kentucky. “This partnership with The Greater Cincinnati Foundation gives the class a clear answer. I am excited to see how this group of 51 leaders learn, grow and make meaningful decisions together that will have a lasting impact in our region.”

In a joint approach toward that goal of community connection and investment, Leadership NKY is also partnering with Cincinnati Cares this year. Cincinnati Cares President and CEO Doug Bolton emceed the luncheon and gave a call to action to attendees to find local organizations with which they could volunteer or serve.
