The principal and assistant principal at Glenn O. Swing Elementary School are taking on greater leadership roles in Covington Independent Public Schools.

Scott Alter, who has been principal of Glenn O. for 10 years, will now serve as the assistant superintendent for instructional support in Central Office.
Sherry Lindberg, who was assistant principal at Glenn O., is now principal of that school.
“I am thrilled about Mr. Alter and Mrs. Lindberg assuming their new roles,’’ said Covington Superintendent Alvin Garrison. “Both are well-prepared for their leadership positions.
“They have a passion for student learning and the interpersonal skills to be successful.”
Glenn O. Swing is one of the highest scoring schools in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Alter replaces Charlene Ball, who retired. Alter has worked in Covington Schools for 20 years, as a special education teacher, literacy coach, assistant principal, and principal.
Before coming to Covington Schools, Alter was a middle school teacher for three years in his home state of Pennsylvania.
“Mr. Alter brings a variety of experiences and a love for curriculum, instruction and assessment with him to the position,” Garrison said.
Lindberg has worked in Covington Schools for 17 years – eight years as a teacher and nine years as assistant principal at Glenn O. She also served as an interim principal at John G. Carlisle Elementary School.
“I am so excited to have Mrs. Lindberg in her new role,” Garrison said. “She brings the same passion around student achievement and school culture as the previous leader.”
Alter and Lindberg began their new duties on July 1.
