Flags are at half-staff to honor retired U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens

In accordance with the proclamation by President Donald J. Trump, both American and state flags at public office buildings will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Tuesday, July 23, to honor retired U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens, who passed away last Wednesday.

Nominated by President Gerald R. Ford, Justice Stevens served on the Court from December 1975 until his retirement in June 2010.

He will lie in repose in the Great Hall of the Supreme Court today, before his interment following a private funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery tomorrow.

All individuals, businesses, organizations, and government agencies are encouraged to join in this tribute of lowering the flag in honor of Justice Stevens.

Flag status information is available here.
